Kintsugi - Lessons we can learn in menopause from the Japanese art of embracing flaws and imperfections

There is no doubt that this Japanese art form is beautiful.

It is basically a repair job where you actually see the cracks.

The cracks are highlighted - usually in a precious metal such as gold or silver and the joins represent that you should embrace your flaws and imperfections because there is beauty in them.

This art form has some great lessons for us as post menopause women ..

Kintsugi is strength - you don't always realise how strong you are and what potential you have until you have had some knocks and challenges in your life. Just like this pot that is now much stronger for being joined back together.

Kintsugi is healing - not pretending or denying that you are not broken but realising that once you have dealt with the cracks, the holes and put yourself back together you will be a new whole. Not the same as before but something more beautiful. If you look at the bowl in the image above it is so much more beautiful for being repaired.

Kintsugi is inspirational - you can recreate yourself into something more beautiful, much stronger and so much more resilient. Now is your time to start living the life you truly want to lead.

Kintsugi is longevity - it is realising that you have got to this part of your life and you haven't given up, that you are ready to do whatever you need to do to enter into the next phase. This bowl could have easily been just thrown away but once repaired it can continue to be used every day just now with more joy because it is more beautiful with the repairs.

Kintsugi is imperfection - it is realising that perfection is unachievable and recognising you are perfect just as you are now. Your precious scars tell the story of the life you have lead, the things you have done and the battles you have won. Should they not be celebrated and adorned rather than hidden away?

Kintsugi is everyday - everyday connecting with what you and your body needs to make yourself whole again.

Nutritional therapy is a form of kintsugi - I look at all the parts of the puzzle that you give me - your symptoms, your history, your diet, your lifestyle and your goals. I step back and analyse each piece to discover what it is telling me and then I work with you to repair the whole.

What you end up with is something stronger, unique and much more beautiful than before.

It is a personalised process because there is only one you.
